Use the City’s e-services or make an online booking to avoid queues at Walk-in Centres

08 March 2023

Eskom’s non-stop load-shedding, especially at the higher stages, unfortunately affects some of the City’s Walk-in and Motor Vehicle Registration centres. The City urges residents to please plan their visits to a Customer office in advance, check the load-shedding schedule of the particular area and contact the office they plan to visit before making their trip to avoid long queues during load-shedding.

The City continues to look at all feasible options to assist with the electricity supply needs at Walk-in centres and has in recent weeks installed generators and inverter systems at a number of City facilities.

'Walk-in Centres that are not affected by load-shedding are Liberty Promenade Mall, Lansdowne Corner, Table Bay Mall , Cape Town Civic Centre, Bellville Municipal Complex, Durbanville Municipal office and Lentegeur Civic Centre. These centres experience increased customer volumes and queues during load-shedding.

'The City is implementing strategies to reduce the impact of load-shedding on its operations where possible. We urge residents to please plan their visits to a City customer office, and check the load-shedding schedule of the particular Customer office so that they avoid any queues during load-shedding.

'We also encourage residents to register for the City's convenient eServices so that they can do their business remotely. With an e-Services profile, residents can access the City's jobs portal, manage their municipal invoices and balances, renew vehicle licences and more.

'Last year, the City also introduced an online booking system to help residents avoid queues when they do need to come in to a customer office. It is very encouraging to see an increase in the number of unique users benefiting from this service. We are committed to providing reliable services to residents and the City will always strive to improve its service offering to residents. Residents are encouraged to visit the City's website to make their online booking,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.

Remember: City office staff allow senior, pregnant and disabled customers to move to the front of the queue where they will be assisted as soon as possible.

Residents may access the online booking system at https://bookings.capetown.gov.za to book an appointment.

Follow five easy steps and make your booking:

  • Visit the City's website: https://bookings.capetown.gov.za
  • Select your Customer Office
  • Select a service (e.g. account queries/payment, vehicle licensing/registration)
  • Select a date and time for your booking
  • Enter your contact details

Customers will receive an SMS and email confirmation with their appointment reference, which will be required and checked on the day of the appointment.

Checking in: Once the resident arrives at the Walk-in Centre where the booking has been made, the booking reference number must be inserted on the touch screen terminal to receive their Queue Management System (QMS) ticket. The next available City consultant will then call the QMS number.

It is important to note that bookings will only be valid from 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the appointment time. Bookings are automatically cancelled when the customer misses the 15-minute window.
